Cost Control & Cost Reduction Consulting for UAE Businesses

A leaner cost base — without cutting muscle.

When costs grow faster than revenue, the problem is rarely one big number. It is forty small ones that nobody owns. We go through the ledger line by line, separate investment from leakage, renegotiate what can be renegotiated, and install the controls that keep the saving in place.

Where it leaks

The cost lines we check first

After fifteen years of reviewing expenses inside UAE retail, F&B, manufacturing and contracting groups, the same lines come up again and again. None of them is dramatic. Together they are usually several points of margin.

Cost lineWhat we typically find
Rent and leasesEscalations accepted without negotiation, service charges never audited, under-used space, renewals signed at the last minute.
Staff costOvertime as a habit rather than an exception, rosters that do not follow sales, roles duplicated across entities, visa and accommodation costs nobody totals.
Purchases and suppliersPrices unchanged for years, no second quote, rebates earned but not claimed, early-payment discounts ignored.
Wastage and shrinkageExpired, damaged and unexplained stock written off without a reason code or an owner.
MarketingAgencies, shoots and campaigns running without a measure of what they sold.
Utilities and telecomWrong tariffs, idle lines, equipment running overnight, demand charges never reviewed.
Software and subscriptionsLicences for people who left, overlapping tools, annual plans on auto-renew.
Vehicles and logisticsFuel without consumption checks, maintenance without job cards, routes planned by habit.
Bank and finance chargesCard-acquiring rates, facility fees and FX margins that were never benchmarked.
Professional and government feesPRO work, renewals and penalties that a calendar would have avoided.

Method

How a cost reduction engagement runs

01

Baseline

Twelve to twenty-four months of ledger data, cleaned and grouped by cost line, entity and branch — so everyone is looking at the same numbers.

02

Diagnose

Each line tested against volume, contract terms and simple benchmarks. Savings are sized, ranked by value and ease, and given to a named owner.

03

Act

Supplier and landlord renegotiations, roster changes, contract cancellations and process fixes — done with your team, not handed over as a list.

04

Lock in

Budgets by cost owner, an approval matrix, and a monthly cost review so the savings are still there next year.

Principle

Cost control is not the same as cost cutting

Cost cutting is an event: a percentage taken off every budget, usually in a bad year, usually reversed within eighteen months. Cost control is a habit: every dirham has an owner, a purpose and a comparison. We work on the second.

Keeping it off

Expense control and the approval matrix

Cost comes back when nobody is accountable for it. The lasting part of the work is a small set of controls that make spending visible before it happens.

  • A delegation-of-authority matrix: who can commit the company to how much, for what
  • Purchase requests and three quotes above a sensible threshold — enforced by the system, not by reminders
  • A budget for every cost owner, reviewed monthly against actuals
  • A contracts register with renewal dates and notice periods
  • Reason codes for wastage, discounts and write-offs
  • A one-page monthly cost report — or a live view in the Owner's Cockpit
Cutting is not the goal. Some costs are investments that should grow. The work is to tell the two apart — and to stop paying for things that do nothing for customers or staff.

Common questions

Questions owners ask

What does a cost reduction consultant actually do?
We analyse your spending line by line, identify where money is leaking, quantify each saving, and then work with your team to capture it — renegotiating with suppliers and landlords, redesigning rosters and processes, and cancelling what is not needed. We finish by installing budgets and approval controls so the saving lasts.
How much can a business expect to save?
It depends entirely on the starting point, and we do not quote a percentage before seeing the ledger. The diagnostic gives you a sized list of savings with the evidence behind each one, so you can judge the return before committing to implementation.
How are your fees structured?
The diagnostic is a fixed fee agreed in advance. Implementation support is either a fixed monthly retainer or part of a wider advisory partnership. You always know the cost before the work starts.
Will this mean making people redundant?
Not as a starting point. Most savings come from contracts, purchasing, wastage, overtime patterns and unused services. Where structure is the issue we show the numbers and the options; the decision is always yours.
How long does it take?
A diagnostic for a single-entity business takes three to four weeks. First savings — subscriptions, tariffs, quick renegotiations — usually land within the following month; lease and structural items take longer.
Do you work with businesses in Dubai and Sharjah?
Yes. We are based in Sharjah and work on-site with clients in Sharjah, Dubai and Ajman, and remotely across the UAE.
How is this different from an internal audit?
Internal audit tests whether controls work and money is protected. A cost review asks whether the money should be spent at all, and at that price. The two fit together, and many clients take both.
